I am a patient boy

Well, I intended this blog to show you some information about my Raspberry Pi, but as you already know things went a bit different.
I daily look for new footage on youtube. I assume there is still nobody who bought the Raspi, which explains the lack of video dealing with the device. I think this will definetley harm the Raspi, and I will post updates if there are any.

Has the launch failed?

Due to the great popularity there seem to be a lot of people who insult the raspi foundation for not having prepared correctly. Others criticize the resellers (Farnell and RS) to be incompetent. All of these people, who partly seem to be very angry and use bad language, are unhappy to not hold a raspi in their hands. I am quite unhappy about this situation because it harms the project anyway, and I hope the situtation will change so both the foundation and the customers are finally pleased.

Personally, I think it is best to just be patient. Whether the criticism is justified or not, one cannot change the situation and just have to wait. At the momemt, afaik nobody has receveived their Raspi.

There is an interview online where the most striking information is presented:

Feel free to post your feelings regarding the raspi's launch in the comments; it is definitely the more reliable platform :)

How to get one

At the moment, there are two online shops who officially sell the Raspi.
Farnell/Element 14 and RS were both overrun, and my latest state of affair is that you are only able to express your interest. Some people who were already able to send their order seem to experience waiting times from up to two months.
Partly this is a postivie thing, because it shows how successful die Raspi actually is. Nevertheless, I am tired of waiting, and it would be great if they addressed this issue and decrease waiting time.

On element 14 they offer the OS. I am downloading it and will report how it feels. Most people used any Linux distro to start programming apps to run on the Raspi, and mabye this is nearer to the "real experience.

You cannot install the original Raspi distro since it is a img file. Maybe there is a workaround....

What is it good for?

The most striking thing about the Raspberry is that it handels full hd video playback, meaning 1920*1080 video data can be shown on your flat screen via HDMI. This is simply awesome. Full HD playback is an issue even on mid end hardware, and this device is very low priced and can manage it. Very impressive, here is the prove:
